A pipeline you cannot safely re-run is a pipeline you cannot operate

In a customer environment things get re-run: after a failure, after a fix, after somebody clicks the button twice. If a second run does damage, every operational decision becomes a negotiation. Designing for safe re-runs is what makes a deployment operable by other people.
